Tiivistelmä:This article discusses the connection between religion and economic change in Norway in the turn of the 19th century. The focus is on Hans Nielsen Hauge (1771-1824), a major religious nonconformist, and his entrepreneurial initiatives. Hauge's success is analysed with the aid of modern economic theory of entrepreneurship, and it suggests that his approach to business development incited important performance factors.
