| Tiivistelmä: | Using a questionnaire survey and interviews, this paper explores the impact of holiday travel on the 'self'. Vacation travel emerges as a form of learning about the 'self', a journey of self-discovery rather than self-recovery. Travel impacts are predominantly self-centered, producing changes that offer opportunities for personal growth. Experiences leading to these changes are mainly influenced by interactions with the 'other'. Notably, there is found no significant association btw. personality type and being impacted. Also, no difference was found btw. a pleasurable and a miserable experience and being impacted. |
