| Tiivistelmä: | The recent research suggests many variables as significant determinants of pollution. This paper offers an overview of literature on the field and asks which of these variables have an empirically robust effect on water and air pollution. Extreme Bound Analysis (EBA) is applied on a panel of 120 countries covering the period 1960-2001. Supportive evidence is found of the existence of the environmental Kuznets curve for water pollution. Moreover, mainly variables describing the economic structure of a country impact air and water pollution. |
