| Tiivistelmä: | This article investigates how small and medium enterprises manage their international partners in exporting, joint ventures and fully owned subsidiaries. In-depth case studies were carried out in 14 Greek small companies that used different modes to cooperate with their partners abroad. It is found two combinations of governance mechanisms being implemented by these two kinds of companies: high performers practice situational decision-making with outcome-oriented incentives and performance monitoring schemes, while low performers practice centralized decision-making with behaviour-oriented incentives and performance monitoring schemes. |
