| Tiivistelmä: | This article examines the relationship between formality and informality through an analysis of managerial approaches to employment relations practice in six growing, medium-sized organizations. Employing recent conceptual work on informality and formality, it is argued that the use of the terms in previous analyses tends to deny the co-dependency of both the concepts and managerial approaches to the employment relationship. It is proposed that debate in this area can be reframed through handling of informality and formality as a dualism rather than a dichotomy, and question the notion that small companies move from informality to formality. |
