Tiivistelmä:This study aims at contributing to understanding of knowledge management (KM) and, particularly, knowledge sharing (KS) in the public sector through a case study-based investigation of KM policies and strategies, and KS processes in four U.K. police forces. Conducting semi-structured interviews with 10 police officers in three police forces, and in the National Policing Improvement Agency (herein as: Agency), questions were focused on KM strategy, strategies for encouraging staff to share and exchange knowledge, and any challenges in these areas.
It was found among others that none of the case study organizations has an overarching KM strategy or policy, although there is widespread recognition of the importance of intelligence and KS to successful policing. The three police forces, supported by the Agency, do try to include KM into their strategies, processes and training methods etc.
