| Tiivistelmä: | This article presents a preliminary model of a balanced scorecard for tourism destinations, specifically emphasizing on sustainable development. We begin with reviewing the perspectives and key performance variables for the conventional balanced scorecard. Then, empirical work using quantitative analysis techniques is presented. A survey was completed by 1531 tourism-oriented Spanish municipalities, which have demonstrated interest in management issues. Based on the constructs showing up from the analysis, it is shown how the balanced scorecard can be reworked to support the strategic planning of tourism destinations. We conclude by analyzing the advantages for strategic planning and sustainable tourism management in the long term. |
