Tiivistelmä:Founding on a content analysis, this article examines the role of sustainable supply chain management as a catalyst of generation of valuable inter-organizational resources and hence possible sustained inter-firm competitive advantage through collaborating in environmental and social issues. Drawing on the resource-based view and its extension, the relational view, this study emphasizes that partner-focused supply management capabilities advance to corporate core competences as competition changes from an inter-firm to an inter-supply-chain level. The ‘collaborative paradigmÂ’ in supply chain management sees strategic collaboration as a key source of competitive advantage. It is even more essential when supply chains pursue to ensure simultaneously economic, environmental and social performance on a product's whole life-cycle. Inter-firm resources and capabilities rising from supply-chain-wide collaboration may become sources of sustained inter-firm competitive advantage, as they are socially complex, causally ambiguous and historically grown and thus especially difficult to imitate by competitors.
