Tiivistelmä:The study aims to contribute to the present development of R&D project leadership research by taking a distributed leadership perspective to analyze a product development project in a small biotechnology venture. This perspective implies that leadership is considered as a process of social interaction, involving several individuals continuously constructing leadership activities together. We conclude that leadership work in R&D projects is about construction of issues, responsibilities and identities. That is, when performing leadership activities in the project people gradually shift it and the organization forward by processing issues, resolving ambiguities concerning responsibility, and develop their understandings on the involved identity bases.
