| Tiivistelmä: | This article provides a reflexive marking of tourism and ageing research, arguing for change in its research approaches. It observes that prior research on tourism in later life is mostly quantitative and concerned with developing market-oriented typologies. We argue the case for humanist, participatory viewpoints to the study of older people, adopting the principles of critical gerontology and hopeful tourism. Biographical research is discussed to illustrate how such enquiry could engage older people, foreground their voices and agendas and effects on their lives. A four part agenda is provided for tourism and ageing research as a conclusion. |
