| Tiivistelmä: | Cooperative behavior in tourism destination communities is a prerequisite for sustainable planning and development. Nevertheless, lack of evidence exists on actors' chosen ways of cooperation. Prior research in institutions, organizations, and communities indicate that formal, contract-based as well as informal, relation-based cooperation occur together or in substitution, depending on the context and the research subject. However, neither the approaches nor their underlying dimensions have been tested in the context of actual tourist destination communities. For a European Alpine tourism destination the results imply only relation-based items, combined with communication variables, strongly positively influencing cooperative behavior. The article proposes a series of implications for tourism destination planning, concluding with further research indications. |
