Tiivistelmä: | This paper takes a critical discursive perspective on the representation of corruption in the media, focusing empirically on the media coverage of a corruption scandal. Based on the analysis, presented are examples on how the media makes of and gives sense to controversial activities in response to changing and at times contradictory information. Especially, emphasized is the interplay btw. four dominant discourses, that is, transgression, political, public scapegoating, and individualistic, which were mobilized all over the media coverage. It is suggested herein that similar interplay and dynamics be important aspects of media sensemaking around controversial activities in relation to corruption. |
