| Tiivistelmä: | This paper aims at taking a 20-year perspective to revisit the Alar controversy, being one of the most argued public issues of the late 1980s. It is explored what new conclusions can be drawn for modern risk and issue managers. The Alar case brought about a major reassessment of risk communication and the role of activists and the news media in amplifying issues. Yet, even today some facts remain in dispute and some of the learnt lessons are blurred by history or seem to have had little lasting impact. |
