| Tiivistelmä: | The literature on dark tourism mainly follows a supply perspective, nearly ignoring the tourist experience. Focusing on Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp, the present study elucidates the nature of this tourism experience by illuminating the relations btw. the symbolic meanings linked to the site and core elements of the tourist experience. It is suggested that Auschwitz hosts a heritage experience rather than a only dark tourism one. Alongside site attributes, tourists' site perceptions ought to be taken into account in the conceptualization of the tourist experience etc. |
