Tiivistelmä: | Acceptance of tourism and recreation management strategies are dependent on situational factors incl. social, resource, and facility impacts. Herein, normative acceptance (hereafter as: accpnt.) of management strategies and the way in which situational factors differentially influence accpnt. are measured. Surveys of about 1,400 tourists and residents at coastal Hawai'ian sites included eight hypothetical scenarios describing impacts to four factors: i. use level/density, ii. presence of litter, iii. damage to reefs, and iv. condition of facilities. Respondents rated their accpnt. of improving awareness/education, restricting use, increasing facilities, and improving maintenance for each scenario. Factors differentially influenced accpnt. of these actions: In influencing accpnt. of improving awareness, damage to reefs was the most important factor. When rating accpnt. of restricting people, use level was most important one. In accpnt. of increasing maintenance and facilities, facility conditions were most important one. |
