| Tiivistelmä: | This paper proposes a new channel of efficiency-enhancing knowledge diffusion, which can be utilized by local firms to extract relevant information on consumer preferences: direct contacts with tourism flows. Within a spatial estimation framework, tourism flows are herein examined as determinants of regional total factor productivity. By applying the analysis to a sample of about 200 European regions of the EU-15 member countries, plus Switzerland and Norway, it is shown that tourism flows enhance regional efficiency, with a positive role being also played by intangible assets, infrastructures and spatial spillovers. |
