| Tiivistelmä: | This paper offers insights into the motivations and experiences of tourists visiting sites associated with war and conflict. Based on 25 participants' tour of the World War I battlefields of the Somme and Ypres, four of the narratives are discussed in order to describe in detail how such battlefield tours provide opportunities for pilgrimage, collective and personal remembrance and event validation. All of the participants had an in-advance interest in warfare, being a key influence on their battlefield tour experiences. |
