| Tiivistelmä: | When disaster threatens a data centre as was the northern California earthquake in 1989 October, new technologies such as electronic vaulting, remote journaling and database shadowing could get a company up and running in a hurry. The senior vice president of Charles Schwab and Co, Inc. in San Francisco had contracted with a disaster recovery services vendor to provide a backup data centre with mainframe, storage and communications. It came in handy when the quake cut off electrical power to Schwab and threatened to put the company out of business. Electronic vaulting is compared with remote journaling and database shadowing as the main protective measures against disaster. None of these electronic data protection services is cheap. |
