Abstract (eng):In large companies broad product portfolios tend to create situations where the re-use of already developed solutions is not efficient.
One the most important phase in new pro-duct development, when planning re-use, is product architecture.
Meaning of product architecture is to determine the functions that the product needs to fulfill and the physical solutions which performs these functions.
The scope of architecture is wide and it needs cooperation from multiple disciplines in order to create environment where architecture is managed efficiently.

This master's thesis aims to provide broad understanding of the topics regarding product architecture and architecture management based on literature review.
The main focus of the thesis is on the visualization of the product's architecture.
Visualization has an important role in creation of system level understanding of the product.
With a common visualization method knowledge share between stakeholders can be increased.
Eventually this increases the knowledge of already developed solutions.

This thesis examines two highly different visualization tools.
From these tools, System modelling language and Interface diagram, the most suitable method is chosen for the case company.
During the visualization of case product the original method is modified to better fulfill the needs of the case company.
As a final result the tailored visualization method is provided for the case company.
This common visualization method can be used to visualize all product architectures within the company.
Abstract (fin):Suurissa yrityksissä laajat tuoteportfoliot luovat helposti tilanteen, jossa aikaisempien ratkaisujen uudelleen käyttö ei ole tehokasta.
Avain roolissa uusia tuotteita kehittäessä on vaihe jolloin määritellään tuotteen arkkitehtuuri.
Tuotearkkitehtuurissa määritellään mitä valmistuote tekee ja millaisessa vuorovaikutuksessa se on ympäristönsä kanssa sekä millaiset fyysiset ratkaisut tuottavat nämä toiminnot.
Tuotearkkitehtuuri on aiheena hyvin laaja ja vaatii useiden yrityksen toimintojen tehokkaan yhdessä toimimisen, jotta tuotearkkitehtuurin hallinta on tehokasta useiden tuoteperheiden laajuudella.

Diplomityössä keskitytään ensin tarjoamaan lukijalle kattava yleisymmärrys tuotearkkitehtuurin laajuudesta sekä siitä miten tuotearkkitehtuuria tulisi kehittää perustuen kirjallisuusselvitykseen.
Työn tutkiva osuus keskittyy tuotearkkitehtuurin visualisointiin.
Tuotearkkitehtuurin visualisoinnilla on tärkeä rooli tuotteen systeemitason ymmärryksen kannalta.
Tehokkaalla arkkitehtuurin visualisoinnilla voidaan lisätä ymmärrystä yrityksen tuotteista eri sidosryhmien välillä, jolloin tieto muissa projekteissa kehitetyistä ratkaisuista kasvaa.

Työssä tutkitaan kahta hyvin erilaista visualisoinnin mahdollistavaa työkalua.
Näistä työkaluista, System modelling language ja Interface diagram, valitaan paremmin tutkimuksen yritykselle soveltuva menetelmä.
Tutkimuksessa visualisoidun tuotteen perusteella alkuperäistä visualisointimenetelmää muokataan paremmin sopivammaksi yrityksen tarkoitusperiin.
Lopputuloksena yritykselle luodaan räätälöity visualisointimenetelmä, jolla voidaan visualisoida myös yrityksen muiden tuotteiden arkkitehtuureja.
