You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.

Abstract (eng): Web services, such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Google Calendar, and YouTube are experiencing extensive user growth.
Many of these services have recently introduced a new feature - Application Programming Interface (API) for third-parties.
These public APIs put users' privacy at risk by disclosing huge amounts of personal information to third-party developers.
Privacy risks associated with public APIs have recently come to the fore but not many proposals exist to overcome the issues.
Researchers have introduced e.g. new access control policies, privacy-by-proxy designs, and cryptographic methods to mitigate the problem, but ail solutions have their own downsides.
This thesis describes the current situation in this field of study and then introduces and analyzes seven public APIs.
The result is quite alarming: accessing users' private data through public APIs requires only basic knowledge of server side programming.
Abstract (fin): Web-palvelut, kuten esimerkiksi LinkedIn, Twitter, Google Calendar ja YouTube ovat kasvaneet valtavasti viimeisten vuosien aikana.
