Abstract:This study deals with the concepts of trust, commitment, motivation and performance focusing on the key components of trust in the workplace. A global multinational firm was explored to confirm the Morgan Hunt (1994) Commitment-Trust theory with trust being an antecedent to commitment. A revised performance model based on the work of Maier (1955) and Mayer et al. (1995) is developed and tested. The results confirm that all aspects of the construct trust tested have a significant impact on motivation and performance. To conclude, refinements to Maiers's (1955) existing performance model are proposed.
