| Abstract: | This article studies exclusivity provisions in licensing alliances and the restrictions that accompany them. There is much support for the claim that these attributes are associated with contractual challenges of allying with licensees. Safeguarding licensee investments in supplementary assets and early stage technology contracting are secured through contractual hostages, such as exclusivity. Also according to the results, management of transactional concerns in licensing alliances is occasionally done with scope restrictions and other formal safeguards. |
