Abstract:The article examines two relatively new methods for estimating structural equation models: the ones proposed by Croon (2002) and by Skrondal & Laake (2001). These methods have been for some reason overlooked by applied scientists. The authors of this article suggest that this may be because of the lack of guidance in implementing the methods, as well as the lack of formal comparison of the methods in relation to more familiar ones. The authors provide a step-by-step illustration for implementing the two methods and also a comprehensive evaluation of them. The purpose is to make the Croon and Skrondal & Laake methods more accessible to researchers by helping them understand how and when to apply these methods.
