Abstract (eng): | Container transportation is growing rapidly worldwide. Therefore, the harbours need to work efficiently to shorten the loading and unloading times. Ship-To-Shore container cranes (STSs) have an important role in the loading/unloading process. It is important to know what are the most time consuming tasks of the crane. At the moment, the harbour operators know only how many containers are loaded/unloaded per hour. Thus, more specific information about the work at the harbour is needed. The objective of this thesis is to model the work cycle of the STS by using Hidden Markov Models (HMMs). The raw data from the STS include all the essential information to generate suitable events. The states of the model are chosen carefully, so that they offer valuable information about the different tasks the STS perform during the loading/unloading process. In addition, the model provides the time distribution of the states. Model analysis informs if the model has managed to model the work cycle properly. The results are very promising, since almost all work cycles are modelled properly. The results can he used in operator education to help the STS operator to detect his/her possible development areas. Also harbour optimization might benefit from the results, since the whole loading/unloading process can be optimized to maximize the work efficiency of the STS. In addition, time distributions can be used in product development to add features which help in execution of the most critical phases of the STS's work. |
Abstract (fin): | Kansainvälinen konttiliikenne kasvaa tällä hetkellä voimakkaasti. Tämän työn tavoitteena on mallintaa STS:n työsykli Markovin piilomalleja (HMM) hyödyntäen. Nosturin raakadata tarjoaa kaiken tarpeellisen tiedon mallin tarvitsemien tapahtumien tuottamiseen. Mallin tilat ovat tarkoin valitut, jotta ne tarjoaisivat mielekästä informaatiota nosturin eri työvaiheista lastaus- ja purkuprosessien aikana. Lisäksi malli antaa työtehtävien aikajakauman. Mallianalyysi kertoo onko HMM onnistunut mallintamaan työsyklin halutulla tavalla. Tulokset ovat hyvin lupaavia, sillä melkein kaikki työsyklit pystytään mallintamaan oikein. Tuloksia voidaan hyödyntää STS-kuljettajien koulutuksessa auttamalla kuljettajia havaitsemaan omia kehitysalueitaan. Tuloksia voidaan hyödyntää myös sataman optimoinnissa, sillä koko sataman työketju voidaan optimoida maksimoimaan nosturin työteho. Lisäksi nosturin työsyklin aikajakaumaa voidaan käyttää nosturin tuotekehityksessä, kun uusia ominaisuuksia voidaan kohdentaa työn kannalta kriittisiin vaiheisiin. |
