Abstract (eng): A theoretical model of the test device and simulation program is developed to study the particle removal efficiency of a large-scale diesel engine, and to analyze the device performance with regard to the main operating parameters.
The particle removal system is based on the temperature gradient inside a tube, which in turn generates the driving force on the particles.
In this study, an extensive literature survey of aerosol physics is presented and a simulation model for the particle removal is developed.
A test device was constructed and several experimental tests were carried out.
The correlation between the calculated and measured results of removal efficiencies is quite satisfactory in different cases: dry and wet cases with different gas velocities.
The phenomenon that was obviously affecting the particle removal efficiency was gas-particle conversion, which reduced the removal efficiency.
