Abstract (eng): The main topics in this thesis are zeolite catalyst deactivation by nitrogen poisoning, introducing of different kind of nitrogen removal methods, and maximization nitrogen removal in Borealis Polymers Oy's Cumene plant at Porvoo site.

The thesis literature part introduces cumene, cumene production, zeolite catalyst, and FCC process in a general level.
In addition, the zeolite catalyst deactivation by nitrogen poisoning and nitrogen compounds possibly contained in FCC propylene stream will be studied.
At the end of the literature part, different kind of literature found nitrogen removal methods are introduced.

In the applied part of thesis, Borealis's Cumene plant will be presented first on a general level.
Also Neste Oil's FCC process will be looked at.
After this, more close examination will be performed into the thesis' topic by studying the current situation in view of both: catalyst operating life and economics.
Next will be introduced and valued the most realistic solution alternatives for the Cumene plant and the best of those will be chosen for further examination.

On the ground of the best solution, maximization of the deethanizer column, test runs are experimented.
At the same time the optimal process condition are tried to be solved by simulating the process with Aspen Plus simulator programmer.

After finding the optimal process conditions, an investment calculation will be performed for those with Borealis's own investment cost calculation table.
The cost and the possible attained savings will be inserted to Borealis investment model to calculate net present value (NPV, internal rate of return (IRR), and payback period (PP) for the investment.
Abstract (fin): Työn pääaiheet ovat zeoliittikatalyytin deaktivoituminen typpimyrkyttymisen seurauksena, erilaisten typenpoistotapojen esittely ja typenpoiston maksimointi Borealis Polymers Oy:n Kumeeniyksikössä Porvoossa.
