Abstract (eng): | A knowledge base is a system, used by a group or an organisation to store and access the knowledge that is created and discovered in daily operations. Recently knowledge management and organisational memory have received special attention, and they are commonly brought up as one of the main competitive advantages in the business environments of the twenty-first century. This study focuses on supporting and enhancing the work of IT specialists in a service desk organisation by a knowledge base. A range of existing solutions and their suitability for the uses of the case organisation is explored. The case organisation is Tieto Oyj - more specifically, a service desk supporting clients in the finance and insurance industries. In this study, successful knowledge management is found to be dependent of several other factors, in addition to technical factors. The major challenges, as well as the requirements of a knowledge base for the case organisation, are addressed. Based on these findings, actions for improving knowledge management are recommended. In addition to existing solutions, interactivity and other Web 2.0 features are presented. Connecting the system with other systems and information sources is also discussed. |
Abstract (fin): | Tietämyskanta on järjestelmä organisaatioissa jatkuvasti syntyvän tiedon hyödyntämiselle. |
