Abstract (eng): IPTV services deliver entertainment quality digital video content through an IP network based on wired or wireless infrastructure.
IP networks are prone to packet loss for various reasons in the network elements and this presents itself as one of the principal factors affecting the quality of experience for the users.
In order to avoid visible impairments from reaching the audience, instant responses are required to recover lost packets.
This thesis work evaluates the performance of two such application layer packet recovery mechanisms (application layer FEC scheme, RTCP feedback-based retransmission scheme) and presents the findings.
The performance of a hybrid scheme, combining FEC and retransmission, is also evaluated and presented.
