Abstract (eng): Simulation can be used to study processes and their properties.
Although many simulation programmes are available for the paper and pulp industry, a programme that focuses on process water has not been developed.
Because of this, Kemira R&D decided to build its own simulation tool.
Building such a tool from scratch requires documentation and test usage.

The purpose of this thesis was to document and study the utilisation of the self-made simulation tool for modelling paper, pulp and water treatment processes.
The models in the simulation tool were written with C++ and the simulations were made with the LabView programme.
In the applied part, the first experiment was to study water circulation in a paper-making process and the formed deposits in the water circulation.
The first experiment also studied the effect of the coating change to the deposits.
The second experiment studied the biocide feeding sequences in a fourtank system.

The utilisation of the simulation proved useful in problem-solving situations in which there was no possibility for trial runs.
In the first experiment, the simulation verified that high oxalate level was the problem source of the deposits in the papermaking process.
The second experiment revealed that the best feeding sequences were fed at the beginning of the process.
Abstract (fin): Simulointia voidaan käyttää prosessien ja niiden ominaisuuksien tutkimiseen.

Simuloinnit suoritettiin LabView ohjelmalla.

Simuloinnin avulla voitiin varmistaa korkean oksalaattipitoisuuden sakan muodostumisen ongelmalähteeksi paperinvalmistusprosessissa.
Toisessa tutkimuskohteessa havaittiin parhaat biosidipitoisuudet prosessissa, kun biosidi syötettiin prosessin alkupään säiliöihin.
