Abstract (eng): | Commoditization is a phenomenon generally perceived to follow in the market after growth and maturity of a product. In commoditized markets, offerings are mutually compared primarily based on price as this is the only relevant differentiating factor. Instead of capitulating to this setting, suppliers should actively seek and demonstrate to customers differentiating elements in their offering. This thesis is a case study conducted in a company in power and automation industry. The thesis investigates micro drives markets focusing on wholesaler channel with the aim to find elements to tackle commoditization of products by the case company in this market. The main research question of the study is: With in case, what are the key product-external matters (value elements) to be recognized and provided in order to tackle commoditization and attract wholesalers and their customers in a superior way? The research method used is a mixed method combining a case study research method with Grounded Theory. The objective of the study is to find concrete developmental proposals for the case company regarding its micro drive offering, and then investigate related literature and synthesize case data and literature in order to give strategic advice also. The case study is based on interviews conducted to personnel in the case company, wholesaler companies, and to end-users of the product. The outcome of the thesis is a collection of concrete short-term improvement proposals and long-term strategic advices for the case company. Also, the thesis connects the findings of the case to existing literature giving the findings a wider context. |
