Abstract (eng): | The water balance and improved subsurface drainage methods in a clayey agricultural field in Jokioinen (south-western Finland) were studied with a mathematical FLUSH model. The objective was to investigate the effects of hydrological interaction of four experimental fields, the effects of different drainage methods, the influence of topography and the reasons for the natural differences in the groundwater levels between the field sections. Calibration-validation period and paired catchment method were applied in the study. Calibration period was 6 May 2007 - 31 Dec 2007 while validation periods were 3 Jun 2008 - 31 Dec 2008 and 6 May 2009 - 31 Dec 2009. During the calibration period the modelled drain flow corresponded well with the measurements. During the validation period (2008) modelled drain flow corresponded well with the measurements except in August and September when the model produced too much runoff. Excess runoff resulted from the inaccuracy of the PET estimate, the inaccuracy of the surface layer runoff modelling or the lack of soil data. Year 2009 was dry but the modelled runoffs corresponded quite well with the measurements. The model was unsuitable for simulating interflow. The results indicated that the interaction between the experimental field sections affected the runoff generation at the study site notably. Drainage operations affected also the hydrology of the comparison fields notably. A steep slope at the field section perimeter decreased drain flow in the field sections. Improved drainage increased the amount of drain runoff and decreased surface layer runoff. The installation of the drains changed the properties of the soil probably by decreasing the amount of macropores. The resolution of the calculation grid affected the runoffs the most when the topography of the field section was steep. Increasing the diameter of the drains from 5 to 11 cm increased the drain runoff notably while further increase had only minor effect on drain runoff. The differences in the groundwater levels were found to be caused by the soil structure beneath the drains. |
Abstract (fin): | Työssä tutkittiin pellon vesitasetta ja salaojitusmenetelmien toimivuutta savimaassa matemaattisella FLUSH-mallilla Jokioisten Nummelan koekentällä Lounais-Suomessa. Tavoitteena oli selvittää koealueiden keskinaista vuorovaikutusta, ojitustoimenpiteiden vaikutuksia, topografian vaikutusta valuntasuhteisiin ja syitä alueiden pohjavedenpinnan korkeuksien luontaisiin eroavaisuuksiin. Työ toteutettiin kalibrointikausi-vertailualuemenetelmällä. Kalibrointikautena toimi 6.5.2007 - 31.12.2007, validointikausina 3.6.2008 - 31.12.2008 ja 6.5.2009 - 31.12.2009. Kalibrointikaudella salaojavaluntojen mallinnustulokset vastasivat hyvin mittaustuloksia. Laskentaverkon resoluutio vaikutti valuntoihin eniten alueilla, joiden topografia on jyrkkä. Salaojien halkaisijan suurentaminen 5 senttimetristä 11 senttimetriin vaikutti kuivatustehokkuuteen huomattavasti. Suurennettaessa halkaisijaa enemmän oli kuivatustehokkuuden kasvaminen huomattavasti pienempää. Alueiden luontaisten pohjavedenpinnan korkeuksien eroavaisuuksien todettiin johtuvan salaojitussyvyyden alapuolisen maaperän rakenteesta. |
