Abstract (eng): The increasing amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, and concerns over the effects of the growth to our living conditions have created premises for emissions trading.
As the emissions trading system expands to new industries there is a need for knowledge about the prospects and requirements for CO2 capture.

CO2 containing gas streams at oil refineries were identified and their potential for CO2 capture was evaluated in this work.
CO2 capture techniques were developed at a concept level.
Taking into consideration the specific challenges for CO2 capture at oil refineries a set of criteria for qualitative evaluation of the concepts was developed.

The streams that had the largest potential for CO2 capture were identified at oil refineries with the help of the developed criteria.
The off gas streams of hydrogen production were evaluated to be the most potential.
Some combustion flue gases were also found to be of interest.

In conclusion it can be stated that in order to reduce the overall CO2 emissions at oil refineries improvement of energy efficiency and intensification of processes should still be continued while developing CO2 capture technologies starting from the economically and technologically most feasible processes.
Abstract (fin): Hiilidioksidin kasvava määrä ilmakehässä ja huoli kasvun vaikutuksista elinoloihimme on luonut edellytykset hiilidioksidin päästökaupalle.
Päästökauppavelvoitteiden levitessä uusille teollisuuden aloille tarvitaan tietoa hiilidioksidin talteenoton mahdollisuuksista ja edellytyksistä.

Tässä työssä tutkittiin öljynjalostamoiden kaasuvirtojen soveltuvuutta hiilidioksidin talteenottoprosessiin.
Jalostamolla esiintyvät hiilidioksidivirrat tunnistettiin ja arvioitiin niiden potentiaalia talteenottoa ajatellen.
Talteenottomenetelmiä kehitettiin konseptitasolla.
Menetelmien arvioimiseen kehitettiin kriteeristö, joka ottaa huomioon öljynjalostustoiminnan aiheuttamat erityisominaisuudet talteenotossa.

Öljynjalostamolta tunnistettiin hiilidioksidin talteenottoon soveltuvia virtoja käyttäen apuna luotua kriteeristöä.
Potentiaalisimmaksi kohteeksi jatkotutkimuksille arvioitiin vedyn tuotannon välivirrat.
Myös tiettyjen yksiköiden savukaasut todettiin mielenkiintoisiksi kohteiksi hiilidioksidin talteenottoa ajatellen.

Yhteenvetona voidaan todeta, että jalostamoiden hiilidioksidipäästöjen vähentämiseksi on edelleen sovellettava energiatehokkuuden parantamista ja prosessien tehostamista ja samanaikaisesti tulisi kehittää hiilidioksidin talteenottoa alkaen teknis-taloudellisesti edullisimmista prosessiyksiköistä.
