Abstract (eng): | The first aim of this thesis was to determine how maintenance work for a new propulsion product can be implemented in a conventional large container ship's maintenance program during seasonal dry dockings. This is verified by creating a schedule for required maintenance work. The second aim of the thesis is to use cost-and sensitivity analysis to determine how much maintenance cost effects on total costs during ship's lifetime. Also the effect of the maintenance cost is considered on the new propulsion product's payback time. With the new propulsion product a 5 % increase in ship efficiency is expected. The fuel saving technology is based on three main characteristics: pod propulsion, CRP -propulsion and efficient rudder design. Large container ships operate mainly on long routes with constant speed when the propulsion system can be used in optimal efficiency level. The most important basic maintenance works for large container ships are determined through interviews. This information is needed so that the basic framework for dry docking schedule and other limitations are known for planning the new propulsion product's maintenance. A questionnaire was sent to various ship owners and repair yards to acquire trustable information. The maintenance intervals are determined mainly by classification societies and the new optional extended dry docking period for container ships is set to 7.5 years instead of today's typical 5 year docking interval. Even though the cost of the maintenance work does not have a large contribution on the ship's total operating cost during its lifetime, the possibly lengthened dry docking times can have a significant impact through the cost of lost income. Also so-called slow steaming trend is affecting today's container shipping. This means that ships operate on lower speeds than they were originally designed for to cut operating costs. The effects of these both cases are also considered in the thesis. As a result, a complete maintenance schedule is created where it can be seen how well the maintenance work for the new propulsion concept fits within the container ships basic maintenance program without lengthening the dry docking times. With the cost-and sensitivity analysis the most relevant factors within the maintenance procedures are determined to get an idea on which parts of maintenance require more emphasis on development and cost cutting actions. |
Abstract (fin): | Tämän diplomityön tavoitteena oli istuttaa uuden propulsiotuotteen huolto konventionaalisen konttilaivan huolto-ohjelmaan, sekä määrittää kustannus- ja herkkyysanalyysien avulla, miten huoltokustannukset muodostuvat uuden propulsiotuotteen huollon vaikutuksesta laivan elinkaaren aikana. Kustannusanalyysin kautta selvitettiin uuden propulsiotuotteen kokonaishuoltokustannuksiin merkittävimmin vaikuttavat tekijät, sekä herkkyysanalyysin avulla nähtiin kuinka paljon huoltokustannukset vaikuttavat uudella propulsiotuotteella varustetun laivan kokonaistalouteen. Uuden propulsiotuotteen avulla arvioidaan saavutettavan noin 5 % kokonaissäästö polttoaineenkustannuksiin. Kyselylomake lähetettiin kattavasti konttilaivan huoltoprofiilin tunteville tahoille. Huoltovälit riippuvat merkittävästi luokituslaitoksen asettamista määräyksistä, ja uudet pidennetyt kuivatelakointivälit suurille konttilaivoille antavat mahdollisuuden siirtyä 7,5 vuoden telakointiväliin entisen viiden vuoden kuivatelakointivalin sijaan. Vaikka huollon taloudellinen kustannus ei olekaan kovin merkittävä verrattuna laivan elinkaaren kokonaiskustannuksiin, mahdollisesti pidentyvät telakointiajat voivat vaikuttaa kuitenkin välillisesti myös menetetyn tulon kautta. Tämän vuoksi myös pidentyneen kuivatelakointiajan mahdollisuus otetaan kustannusanalyysissa huomioon. Lisäksi konttilaivaoperoinnissa on voimistumassa ns. slow steaming -trendi, jonka vaikutuksesta konttilaivat operoivat aikaisempaa pienemmillä nopeuksilla polttoainesäästöjen saavuttamiseksi. Myös alentuneiden operointinopeuksien mahdollinen vaikutus otetaan tässä työssä huomioon. |
