Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): Different indentation methods are nowadays widely used in material property characterization.
These methods like hardness, elastic modulus, stress-strain, scratch and fracture toughness tests provide valuable information of component performance and life expectancy under different conditions.

Can these indentation methods and formulas developed for homogenous bulk materials or for thin coatings be used with lamellar structures like thermal sprayed coatings?
This is one of the main questions to be answered in this work.
In this work we present the basic principles and boundary conditions of applied indentation methods and their suitability for thermal sprayed coatings.
All the basic equations are also included.
Two new toughness parameters were created during this thesis.
The meaning and usability of these parameters are studied.

The structure of HVOF sprayed carbide and oxide coatings are studied as well as its effect on mechanical properties.
The main focus areas are the effects of coating microstructure on fracture toughness, crack initiation and propagation resistance.
Abstract (fin): Erilaisten indentaatio- eli voima-tunkeuma-mittamenetelmien hyödyntäminen on yleistä materiaalien mekaanisten ominaisuuksien karakterisoinnissa.
Nämä menetelmät, kuten kovuus-, kimmokerroin-, jännitys-venymä-, naarmutus- ja murtositkeystestit, tarjoavat arvokasta tietoa komponentin suorituskyvystä ja eliniästä eri olosuhteissa.

Voiko kyseisiä homogeenisille bulkkimateriaaleille tai ohutkalvoille kehitettyjä indentaatiomenetelmiä ja yhtälöitä käyttää lamellimaisten rakenteiden kuten termisesti ruiskutettujen pinnoitteiden kanssa?
Tämä on yksi niistä kysymyksistä, joihin tämä työ pyrkii vastaamaan.
Työ esittelee käytettyjen indentaatiomenetelmien perusperiaatteet, teoriat, matemaattiset yhtälöt ja raja-arvot, sekä tarkastelee niiden soveltuvuutta termisesti ruiskutetuille pinnoitteille.
Työn yhteydessä kehitettiin kaksi uutta murtositkeysparametria.
Tarkastelun kohteena ovat näiden parametrien merkitys sekä käytettävyys.

Termisesti ruiskutettujen karbidi- ja oksidipinnoitteiden koostumuksen Ja mikrorakenteen vaikutusta mekaanisiin ominaisuuksiin on tarkasteltu.
Pääfokusalueet ovat pinnoitteiden rakenteen vaikutus murtositkeyteen, särön ydintymis- ja särön kasvun vastustuskykyyn.
