Abstract (eng):This thesis analyses a set of 601 articles relating to External Resource Management (ERM) research through a bibliometric perspective.
The analysis grew out of the ERM project at Aalto University, which aims to structure ERM as a subject of study through qualitative analysis.
The method used in this thesis aims to offer a set of same type of research themes for the same set of articles as identified by a quantitative bibliometric citation analysis.

The core of the method employed in this thesis merges cross-citation analysis with co-citation clusters of article references formed through the application of Dense Network Sub-Grouping algorithm for the purposes of focusing on the central themes of research within the article set.
The articles are analyzed for their keywords and the resulting formation of thematic clusters (based on those keywords) according to the citation data.
Any resulting clusters with themes commonly shared by the articles belonging to those clusters represent existing themes of research within the article set. 153 of the 601 articles were found to belong to the formed clusters.
These articles, along with the co-citation references used, formed 12 clusters that were used in the analysis, of which 9 were found to have identifiable central themes, and highlight the relative importance of two particular journals: Industrial Marketing Management and Journal of Operations Management.
The following clusters were recognized as the most thematically prominent trends in ERM research:

Cluster 1 - Integration and Performance Cluster
2 - Capability Development Cluster
3 - Network Relations Cluster
4 - Supply Relations Cluster
6 - Governance Cluster
7 - Innovation Cluster
8 - Value Creation Cluster
9 - Relationship Building

The found clusters were ranked according to their influence in the ERM article set based on size, total citations and H-index.
Other findings include an emphasis on the increase in the rate of growth of ERM research in the period after 2008, and the relative strength of connections between the clusters and the journals themselves, in regards to the ERM project article set.
Abstract (fin):Tämä diplomityö analysoi bibliometrisesta näkökulmasta 601:n artikkelin kokoelmaa "External Resource Management (ERM)"-tutkimuksen piiristä.

Kaksi käytetyistä kuudesta julkaisusta (Industrial Marketing Management ja Journal of Operations Management) olivat keskimääräistä enemmän vastuussa merkittävimpien klusterien sisällöstä.
Työssä löydettiin seuraavat temaattiset klusterit:

Cluster 1 - Integration and Performance Cluster
2 - Capability Development Cluster
3 - Network Relations Cluster
4 - Supply Relations Cluster
6 - Governance Cluster
7 - Innovation Cluster
8 - Value Creation Cluster
9 - Relationship Building
