Abstract (eng): This work aims to develop a new delivery arm of a dental treatment unit.
A delivery arm supports an instrument console.
Effortless positioning of the delivery arm is thus the base of smooth dental workflow.

Principles for balancing mechanisms are studied and requirements for a dental treatment unit are examined.
To be successful, there is a necessity to combine requirements of aesthetics, usability, long product life span, structural strength and manufacturability.
Generated balancing mechanisms are evaluated by simulations and manufacturing techniques are considered.
The structure of the new delivery arm is presented.
A challenging design case related to structural design is demonstrated.
The last part of the work deals with prototypes and design verification process.

The outcome of the work is a new improved delivery arm.
Developed advanced balancing mechanism is utilized.
The mechanism is usable in many balanced arm applications.
This work describes all the activities that were carried out during the product development process.
Abstract (fin): Tämän diplomityön tarkoituksena oli kehittää uusi hoitovarsi hammashoitoyksikköön.

Kehitetyn mekanismin avulla voidaan toteuttaa tulevaisuudessa entistä paremmin tasapainotettuja varsia.
Diplomityö kuvaa koko tuotekehitysprosessia, jonka seurauksena syntyi uusi hoitovarsi.
