You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.

Abstract (eng): This thesis is about the friction of the ice-ice contact and it concentrates in the friction at sliding velocities over 0.01 m/s.
In this case a lubricating water layer forms between the two ice surfaces.

The water layer reduces the friction coe_cient.
The thermodynamic model by Oksanen [Oks83] is assumed to hold.
It was found out that the hardness of ice and the related pressure melting play important roles in the model.

Modelled and measured friction coe_cients were compared to each other.
It was found out that the model predicts reasonably well the magnitude of the friction coefficient and the dependence of the sliding velocity and temperature.

Finally, the new friction model was implemented as a user-subroutine to ABAQUS/Explicitsoftware by FORTRAN-language.
Abstract (fin): Työ käsittelee kahden jääkappaleen välisen kitkan teoriaa ja sen implementointia jään murtumisen mallintamiseen.

Lopuksi muodostettu kitkamalli implementoitiin aliohjelmaksi ABAQUS/Explicit-ohjelmistoon FORTRAN-kielellä.
