Abstract (eng): This thesis explains the current situation of the need and availability of materials testing services related to foundry industry.
The project aims to create a collaborative network between the Foundry Institute, Tampere University of Technology, Tampere Polytechnic, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and Aalto University School of Science and Technology to offer the foundry industry the needed material testing and consulting services with fast delivery time.

This thesis presents the basic properties of cast materials, the most common testing methods and assesses the suitability of these methods for casting reproductions analysis.
The literature survey has been divided between materials testing as part of the production, and business networking and its consequences.

The actual research part deals with the current state of the Finnish foundries and their future prospects under the pressure of the changes in the economic trends.
Research was carried out with questionnaires sent to the foundries and with personal interviews of representatives of the related companies.
In the results it can be seen that in about half of the foundries materials testing is outsourced.
The interviews also revealed that foundries would like to find a partner who could provide comprehensive testing and expert consulting services.
Abstract (fin): Tässä diplomityössä selvitetään valimotekniikkaan liittyvien aineenkoetuspalvelujen nykytilanne tarpeen ja saatavuuden osalta.
