Abstract (eng): | Traditionally, 110 kV overhead lines in Finland are equipped with shield wires. Shield wires protect the phase conductors against lightning strokes, transfer part of the earth fault current and decrease the hazardous voltages. However, at some locations ice and snow accumulate on the shield wires during winter. These ice and snow accumulations can cause interruptions to the power transmission. Therefore, under certain circumstances it may be justifiable to build overhead lines without shield wires. This master's thesis studies a special 110 kV overhead line structure without shield wires. This overhead line was built in 2009 in Lapland, and connects the substations of Kolari and Pello. The shield wires on this line have been replaced by a buried copper conductor connected to the earthing systems of each tower. The purpose of this continuous counterpoise is to transfer part of the earth fault current and decrease the hazardous voltages. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the hazardous voltages during an earth fault and determine if the Kolari-Pello line is safe. Furthermore, the goal is to analyze the general feasibility of unshielded 110 kV overhead lines in Finland. The research included both measurements and calculations. Novel calculation methods for studying the ground fault situation of an unshielded overhead line equipped with a continuous counterpoise are presented in this thesis. The methods are based on modeling the counterpoise with differential elements and solving the differential equations derived from the model. The validity of the presented calculation methods was evaluated based on the measurements. The conclusion of this study is that the overhead line between Kolari and Pello is safe. This study also presents the general terms under which the unshielded 110 kV lines can be used in Finland. The measurements proved that the presented calculation methods are functional. Therefore, the methods can be utilized when evaluating the hazardous voltages during an earth fault on an unshielded overhead line equipped with a continuous counterpoise. |
Abstract (fin): | Suomessa 110 kV:n avojohdoille asennetaan lähes aina ukkosjohtimet. Jää-kuormien aiheuttamista haitoista johtuen ukkosjohtimien poisjättäminen on tietyissä olosuhteissa perusteltua. Tässä työssä tutkittiin Pohjois-Suomeen Kolarin ja Pellon välille vuonna 2009 rakennettua ukkosjohtimetonta 110 kV:n avojohtoa. Kolari-Pello -johdolla ukkosjohtimet on korvattu maahan upotetulla jokaisen pylvään maadoitukseen yhdistetyllä läpimenevällä kuparijohtimella. Tämän maajohtimen tarkoituksena on kuljettaa osaa maasulku-virrasta ja pienentää vaarajännitteitä. Työn tavoitteena on selvittää, onko Kolari-Pello -johto turvallinen maasulkutilanteessa esiintyvien vaarajännitteiden kannalta. |
