Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The objective of this research was to examine potential sale volumes and applications of multiple glued Kerto-LVL components from Metsä Wood markets areas.
The study aimed to investigate company's existing manufacturing technologies feasibility in future.
Furthermore, cash calculations were used in new press investment profitability studies.

Literature part concentrated in multiple gluing process and the needed functions to reach required quality of the glued components.
Part of the study examined the manufacturing technologies and price value of new press investment.
Finally the literature part investigated the investment calculations and the accounting methods.
In the experimental part company's sales managers were interviewed by emails and phone calls to gather the estimated volumes.
Feasibility study was based on the potential volumes and evaluated press characteristic and the calculated unit-cost of glued components.

In consequence of the analysis, the existing technologies are feasible to manufacture glued Kerto-LVL components in future.
According to calculations a 2 M new press investment is profitable, in theory, if the production volumes reach over 5000 m3 annually during the 6 year payback time.

In addition, this research included a case study: with investigation of PU adhesive applicability to vacuum press manufacturing aiming to replace the MUF adhesive.
All the test results were fulfilled the requirements.
The use of PU glue is more economic due to efficient press cycles and practicality in production there by increasing the manufacturing capacity.
Abstract (fin): Työn tavoitteena oli tutkia kerrannaisliimattavien Kerto-LVL komponenttien volyymitarvetta ja käyttökohdesovelluksia Metsä Woodin markkina-alueilla.
Työssä pyrittiin selvittämään nykyisten tuotantoteknologioiden soveltuvuus ja investoinnin - uuden tuotantoteknologian kannattavuus investointilaskelmilla.

Kirjallisuusosassa tutkittiin rakenneliimausta ja prosessilta edellyttäviä toimintoja jotta riittävän kestävä ja luja liimasauma saavutetaan.
Valmistusteknologiat selvitettiin ja investoinnin -uuden prässin hintataso tutkittiin.
Investointilaskentamenetelmät selvitettiin kirjallisuuden avulla.
Kokeellisessa osassa tutkittiin sähköpostien ja puheluiden avulla yhtiön myyntipäälliköiltä markkina-alueiden volyymitarpeet.
Tuotantomenetelmien kapasiteetit, valmistusyksikkökustannukset ja investoinnin tuloksellisuus laskettiin kannattavuus analyysia varten.

Analyysi osoitti, että nykyiset tuotantomenetelmät soveltuvat kerrannaisliimattavien Kerto-LVL komponenttien valmistukseen tulevina vuosina. 2 miljoonan euron investointi uuteen prässiin on laskelmien mukaan kannattava, edellyttäen että kassavirta on tasaista yli 5000 m3 vuosituotannolla koko 6 vuoden takaisinmaksuajalla.

Lisäksi tapaustutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää PU liiman soveltuvuutta vacuum prässillä valmistettavien komponenttien tuotantoon.
Kaikki testitulokset täyttivät vaatimukset.
Nykyisen MUF liiman korvaaminen yksikomponenttisella PU liimalla vacuum prässin tuotannossa tehostaisi vuosituotantoa nopeampien puristussyklien ansiosta.
