You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): With the increasing demand for health care and the current resource constraints, more efficient and effective practices are needed in Finnish primary health care.
This master's thesis studies the development of health centre activities using industrial engineering principles and methods.
The aim is to understand the current health centre operating models, to identify problem areas, and to make concrete recommendations.

The Finnish primary health care operating environment and health care management literature are reviewed.
The empirical section utilizes expert interviews, overt observation and researcher participation in assessing health centre activities.
In this way, answers are provided to research questions related to the current operating models, problems, and improvement recommendations.

The main results of the study are the identified problem areas in health centre operations and the improvement recommendations.
In researching health centre activities, both standard processes and routine or project-like processes were identified.
Key problem areas identified are related to inefficient use of resources, challenges in administration and management, as well as job satisfaction.
As essential improvement recommendations, a number of concrete changes are proposed in the management of operations, in the development of the staff and collaboration between personnel, and in the processes and services produced.

Overall, the recommendations proposed in the thesis suggest saving resources in certain activities and in turn allocating more resources elsewhere.
Based on this thesis, the application of industrial management methods seems to be useful in the development of health care operations.
Abstract (fin): Lisääntyvän terveyspalveluiden kysynnän ja resurssien niukkuuden takia suomalaisessa perusterveydenhuollossa kaivataan tehokkaampia ja vaikuttavampia toimintatapoja.
Tässä diplomityössä tutkitaan terveyskeskuksen vastaanottotoiminnan kehittämistä käyttäen tuotantotalouden periaatteita ja menetelmiä.
Tarkoituksena on ymmärtää nykyiset toimintamallit, tunnistaa ongelmakohdat ja muodostaa konkreettisia kehityssuosituksia.

Tilanne- ja kirjallisuuskatsauksessa tutkitaan suomalaisen perusterveydenhuollon toimintaympäristöä ja terveydenhuollon johtamista koskevaa kirjallisuutta.
Empiirisessä osiossa hyödynnetään asiantuntijahaastatteluita, avointa seuraamista sekä tutkijan osallistumista terveyskeskuksen vastaanottotoimintaan.
Tätä kautta vastataan toiminnan nykytilannetta, ongelmakohtia ja kehityssuosituksia koskeviin tutkimuskysymyksiin.

Työn keskeisimpinä tuloksina voidaan pitää terveyskeskustoiminnassa havaittuja ongelmakohtia sekä muodostettuja kehityssuosituksia.
Terveyskeskuksen vastaanottotoimintaa tutkittaessa tunnistetaan sekä standardiprosesseiksi luokiteltavia toimia että rutiiniprosesseiksi tai projekteiksi luettavia osa-alueita.
Keskeisimmät vastaanottotoiminnassa tunnistetut ongelmat liittyvät resurssien epätehokkaaseen käyttöön, hallinnon ja johtamisen haasteisiin sekä työviihtyvyyteen.
Oleellisina kehityssuosituksina esitetään lukuisia konkreettisia muutoksia toiminnan johtajuudessa, henkilöstön kehityksessä ja yhteistyössä, prosesseissa sekä tuotetuissa palveluissa.

Tutkimuksen tulosten kokonaiskuvana voidaan ajatella, että ehdotetuin uudistuksin resursseja säästetään toisaalla ja taas kohdennetaan enemmän muualle.
Tähän työhön perustuen tuotantotaloudellisen näkökulman soveltaminen terveyskeskustyön järkeistämiseen vaikuttaa hyödylliseltä lähtökohdalta.
