Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng):This thesis investigates using a shunt resistor as a current transducer in the DC-DC converters, rectifiers and inverters of high-current heavy-duty mobile machine drives.
There are two different measurement electronic circuits attached to the shunt.
The performance of the shunt and these circuits are compared with an open-loop Hall sensor.
This thesis describes the operating principle of Hall sensors and current shunts.
In addition, the use of measured current in e.g. motor control is discussed.
Moreover, this thesis discusses the non-idealities of current sensors and their effects on the torque control of synchronous machines.
The measurements indicate that the Hall sensor is slightly better than the shunt in the static performance measurements.
However, the shunt is almost as good as the Hall sensor.
The Hall sensor performs well in the dynamic measurements.
On the contrary, the performance of the shunt is poor.
However, additional measurements are needed to confirm this.
Anyhow, the shunt seems to be a potential current sensor for further development.
All measurements were done in laboratory conditions.
Therefore, this thesis does not investigate the performance of the current transducers in a true environment, which is a power electronic module where there are severe electromagnetic interferences.
Abstract (fin):Tässä työssä tutkitaan suntin käyttöä virta-anturina raskaiden työkoneiden suuri-virtaisissa tasasähkömuuttajissa ja vaihto- ja tasasuuntaajissa.
Tutkittavassa suntissa on kaksi eri mittauselektroniikkapiiriä, joiden suorituskykyä verrataan kompensoimat-tomaan Hall-anturiin.
Työn teoriaosuudessa esitellään Hall-anturien ja suntin toiminta-periaatteet.
Lisäksi teoriaosuudessa käsitellään virtatiedon käyttöä muun muassa moottorisäädössä.
Työssä esitellään myös virta-anturien epäideaalisuuksia ja niiden vaikutuksia tahtikoneen momenttisäätöön.
Mittaustulosten perusteella Hall-anturi on hieman sunttia parempi staattisessa suorituskyvyssä, mutta suntin staattinen suoritus-kyky on kuitenkin hyvä.
Hall-anturi toimii hyvin myös dynaamisissa mittauksissa.
Suntin dynaaminen suorituskyky on huono testatuissa dynaamisissa tilanteissa, mutta ilman lisätutkimuksia ei voida lopullisesti todeta dynaamisen suorituskyvyn olevan huono.
Suntti vaikuttaa kuitenkin siltä, että siinä on jatkokehityspotentiaalia.
Mittaukset tehtiin laboratorio-olosuhteissa.
Tämä työ ei ota kantaa anturien toiminnasta todellisen tehoelektroniikkamoduulin häiriöisessä ympäristössä.
