You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.

Abstract (eng): The purpose of this Thesis is to research how various health and activity monitoring devices can be integrated into a single Web portal that can be used by various stakeholders.
If proven viable, the overall quality of elderly care could increase dramatically and the caring industry might benefit by the increased transparency of information.

The diversity of different devices makes the integration work difficult.
The devices monitor different kinds of physical characteristics and the information should be displayed to the end-users in a comprehensive way.
The Thesis considers different integration approaches and oBIX standard is used in the implementation.

oBIX proved to be a suitable solution for gathering device data.
The solution has many benefits, such as it relies on an open standard and uses common technologies for communication.
However, oBIX uses traditional polling for retrieving information, and thus performance is reduced compared to push technology.

Web portal technology was found suitable for implementing the Web application.
A Web portal provides some common services that would otherwise have to be implemented, wasting valuable development time.
A portal also defines the common architecture of the Web application, and thus it is easy to implement new requirements as they arise.
All implementation relies on open source software.
Abstract (fin): Tämä työ tutkii, kuinka eri terveys- ja seurantalaitteiden informaatio voidaan integroida yhteen verkkoportaaliin, jota lukuisat eri sidosryhmät voisivat käyttää.
Jos suunnitelma osoittautuu toteuttamiskelpoiseksi, vanhustenhoidon laatu saattaa lisääntyä dramaattisesti ja koko hoitoala voisi hyötyä tiedon läpinäkyvyyden lisääntymisestä.

Laitteiden moninaisuus tekee integroinnista haastavan.
Laitteet seuraavat monia erinaisia fyysisiä ominaisuuksia ja tieto täytyy pystyä näyttämään ymmärrettävässä muodossa.
Työssä pohditaan eri lähestymistapoja integroinnin osalta ja toteutusvaiheessa testattiin oBIX standardin soveltuvuutta tehtävään.

oBIX osoittautui sopivaksi ratkaisuksi laitedatan integroinnin osalta. oBIX perustuu avoimeen standardiin ja se käyttää yleisesti käytössä olevia tekniikoita.
Yksi haittapuoli on se, että oBIX perustuu pollaukseen, jolloin suorituskyky heikkenee verrattuna esimerkiksi push-tekniikkaan.

Verkkoportaalitekniikkaan perustuva toteutus osoittautua toimivaksi.
Toteutus perustuu avoimiin ohjelmistoihin.
