Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The goal of this study was to examine the long-term behaviour of crushed concrete in pavement structures via analysis of full scale structures follow-up measurement results and a literature study.
Additionally, the suitability of some backcalculation methods (APAS, PLAXIS 3D Foundation, and Odemark) for determination of crushed concrete E-moduli was examined.

Analysed trial sections consisted of road to highway sections where crushed concrete has been used in road base and sub-base layers.
Earliest trial sections which were studied were constructed in 1995, which enabled 17 years of follow-up study.
E-moduli of pavement layers were determined using deflection data from falling weight deflect meter (FWD) measurements.
Deflection data was back-calculated to layer E-moduli using PLAXIS 3D Foundation program.
An analysing method was also developed in this study, with the aim of determining the increase of crushed concrete stiffness in pavement structure.

According to this study the sections consisting of 0/50 mm crushed concrete in sub or sub-base have gained 15 -25 % larger bearing capacity after 13 - 15 years construction than the reference pavements that were constructed using crushed rock.
The increase of the crushed concrete stiffness was faster in the first years following construction, and further increase was insignificant or not observed after 2 - 5 years from construction.
Abstract (fin): Työn tavoitteena oli tutkia betonimurskeen pitkäaikaiskäyttäytymistä 1990-luvulla ja 2000-luvun alussa rakennettujen tie- ja katurakenteiden havaintojen ja kirjallisuusselvityksen perusteella.
Lisäksi työssä tutkittiin joidenkin käytössä olevien laskentamenetelmien (APAS, PLAXIS 3D Foundation, Odemark) soveltuvuutta betonimurskerakenteiden takaisinlaskentaan.
Työn tutkimusosiossa analysoitiin Suomessa olevia betonimurskerakenteita kantavuusmittauksien avulla.
Kantavuusmittauksista saatujen taipumasuppiloiden avulla takaisinlaskettiin rakennekerroksien E-moduuleja.
Lisaksi työssä kehitettiin "erotussuora-analyysi" laskentamenetelmä betonimurskerakennekerroksen lujittumisen havaitsemiseksi tierakenteessa.

Työssä tehtyjen havaintojen perusteella tien rakennekerrokset, joissa on käytetty 0/50 mm betonimursketta kantavassa tai jakavassa kerroksessa, saavuttavat 13 - 15 vuoden jälkeen rakentamisesta noin 15 - 25 %:a suuremman kantavuuden päällysteen pinnalta kuin tavallisella kiviaineksella rakennetut rakennekerrokset.
Kantavuuden kehittymiseen vaikuttaa betonimurskeen lujittuminen, joka tapahtuu rakenteissa ajan myötä.
Lujittuminen perustuu sitoutumattoman sementin murskauksessa syntyvien reaktiopintojen sitoutumiseen.
Tässä työssä tutkittujen koekohteiden havaintojen perusteella betonimurskeen lujittuminen on suurinta ensimmäisten vuosien jälkeen rakentamisesta ja lujittuminen hidastuu noin 2 - 5 vuoden jälkeen rakentamisesta.
