Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): This Master's Thesis examines the increase of pore pressure caused by trainload.
On the railway line between Turku and Uusikaupunki one subject was selected for this examination.
Criteria were embankment's height and subsoil condition.
Both undisturbed and disturbed clay samples were taken on site.
These samples were tested at the Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering laboratory of Helsinki University of Technology.

In order to measure excess pore pressure, three pore pressure gauges were installed below the railroad embankment and further three beside the low railroad embankment.

Excess pore pressure caused by trainload was affected by trainload weight, duration of loading and depth of pore pressure gauges.

The greatest pressure growth was measured below the embankment in the middle gauge.
The speed of the train didn't have any significance concerning the pore pressure.

Results of this thesis concern ground-supported embankments, which lie on the cohesive soil.
The highest allowed axle load for this railroad line is 22, 5 tons.
The freight cars that occupy this line were mostly one's with axle load of 20 tons.
Abstract (fin): Diplomityössä tutkittiin dynaamisen junakuorman vaikutusta huokosvedenpaineen nousuun ratapenkereen alla ja vieressä.

Tutkimukseen valittiin kohde, joka sijaitsee Turku-Uusikaupunki rataosuudella.
Valintaan vaikuttivat ratapenkereen korkeus sekä maaperän olosuhteet.

Tutkimuspaikoilta otettiin häiriintymättömät ja häiriintyneet savinäytteet, jotka tutkittiin Teknillisen korkeakoulun Pohjarakennuksen ja maamekaniikan laboratoriossa.

Huokospaineen mittausta varten asennettiin matalan ratapenkereen alle kolme huokospaineanturia ja ratapenkereen viereen kolme.
Junakuorman aiheuttamaan huokosveden ylipaineeseen vaikuttivat junakuorman suuruus, kuormituksen kesto ja mittausanturin syvyys.

Suurin huokosvedenpaineen kasvu tapahtui ratapenkereen alla keskimmäisessä anturissa.
Junan nopeudella ei ollut oleellista merkitystä huokosveden ylipaineeseen.

Diplomityön tulokset koskevat koheesiomaalle maan varaan perustettua pengertä.
Suurin sallittu akselipaino ko. rataosuudella on 22,5 t.
Radalla pääsiallisesti liikennöivien vaunujen akselipaino on kuitenkin 20 t.
Laskelmissa käytetyn koejunan akselipaino oli n. 15 t.
Raision ja Uudenkaupungin välisellä rataosuudella on junien nopeus rajoitettu 50 km/h.
Todellisuudessa lastissa olevat junat liikennöivät rataosuudella 40 km/h nopeudella.
