Abstract (eng):The goal of this thesis was to develop a testing concept for a next generation four-stroke engine in order to reduce lead time and support First-time-right ideology in design and assembly process. In this thesis, testing and assembly related issues are discussed concerning sub-assemblies, the main assembly, test run and finishing. Test method development and presenting ideas for less error prone design are also important fields of the thesis.

This goal was pursued by performing an analysis on the current production of W32 and W34 engines to locate the current problems in the engine manufacturing process. The fading's were further used as a basis for designing a new testing concept, testing method development and providing suggestions for design solutions and improvements on working methods. The analysis included analysing lead time, defects and the FMEA analysis of potential failure modes.

The key findings of the thesis were the discovery of different defects that occur during the production process. These findings provided an excellent basis for a large number of improvement ideas on many fields including testing method improvements, tackling quality issues already during the assembly work, new working methods and opportunities for quality improvement by simple design changes. As a result, a new consistent testing concept for future engines was created.

Lopputuloksena saatiin muodostettua uusi kokonaisvaltainen testauskonsepti tuleville moottoreille.
