Abstract (eng): | Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite navigation system, which is being modernized at the moment. According to the modernization plan four new signals will be taken into use during the years 2004-2011. These signals will provide better cross-correlation properties due to longer coding scheme and more accurate navigation due to wider bandwidth and higher code frequency. Galileo is the project name for European satellite navigation system. Galileo will respond to the Europe's need for independency from other navigation systems and provide reliability and accuracy by introducing ten new signals with advanced technology. According to the implementation plan, the Galileo system will be commercially operational by 2008. GPS and Galileo are commonly referred to as the Global Navigation Satellite System, GNSS. The purpose of this document is to describe what kind of effects the Global Navigation Satellite System will have on receiver architectures. The document introduces the new signal structures, describes the signal properties and makes considerations about signal acquisition and tracking. Additionally, the document describes the architecture of the modem GPS receiver and explains the operation of the different functional parts. In this section two different GPS receivers are presented. The first one is iTrax03 receiver, which is currently under development by Fastrax Ltd and the second one is Sony GPS system-on-chip receiver. Finally the document evaluates the properties of the two commercial GPS products, SoC Solutions correlator and General Electric search engine. |
Abstract (fin): | Nykyisen standardin mukaista GPS-satelliittinavigointijärjestelmää uudistetaan parhaillaan. Suunnitelmien mukaan neljä uutta signaalia on tarkoitus ottaa käyttöön vuosina 2004-2011. Nämä signaalit tarjoavat paremmat ristikorrelaatio-ominaisuudet pidempien koodiensa vuoksi sekä mahdollistavat entistä tarkemman navigoinnin leveämmän kaistan ja suuremman kooditaajuuden ansiosta. Galileo on projektinimi Eurooppalaiselle sateiliittinavigointijärjestelmälle. |
