Abstract (eng): How we see software applications is changing towards thinking software systems as services.
Software companies and their customers alike want to see software and the infrastructure below it as a service rather than as a technical component.
The trend is already visible in models like Software as a Service (SaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
Yet managing actual software has largely remained the same.
Software is still mostly installed and configured by hand.
There is a demand for more automatic solutions and less dependency on manual work.
With software being a service delivered on demand, rather than a fixed long term investment, hosting services also need new, more flexible methods.

This thesis presents the results of a research effort where the goal is to create a framework for virtualized service hosting.
It describes a method and an implementation on how existing virtualization products can be used to create a separate service hosting layer.
With separation there is a better control over the service hosting environment and services; the possibility to automate the usual manual tasks, and the possibility for more agile service hosting.

The framework was tested with an on-demand VoIP server as the service.
The results show that turning even an application with QoS requirements into virtualized hosted services is feasible.
The core idea of separating the service hosting layer from the underlying infrastructure allowed us to deploy and migrate services without any need to configure physical servers.
Abstract (fin): Suhtautuminen ohjelmistoihin on muuttunut.
Suuntaus on jo näkyvissä malleissa kuten Software as a Service (SaaS) ja lnfrastructure as a Service (IaaS).

Kehikkoa testattiin tilattavalla lP-puhepalvelimella.
Tulokset osoittavat, että jopa puhelinvaihteen kaltaisen, palvelunlaatua vaativan palvelun tarjoaminen virtualisoituna on mahdollista.
Tutkimuksen keskeisin ajatus, palvelujen tuottamiseen käytettävän verkon eriyttäminen. mahdollisti palvelujen asentamisen ja siirtämisen ilman tarvetta tehdä muutoksia fyysiseen verkkoon tai palvelimiin.
