Abstract (eng): | Asphaltenes are the heaviest and most aromatic fraction of crude oil. They are large polyaromatic molecules and contain considerable amount of sulphur and metals. Depleting oil reservoirs mean that available crude oil must be refined as efficiently as possible. Refining of crude oils with high asphaltene content to high quality fuels is very challenging. Asphaltenes must be cracked into smaller molecules and sulphur and metals removed to afford good quality fuels. The importance of asphaltenes is increasing and therefore great amount of research is dedicated to them. However, physical properties of asphaltene molecules are not found in literature. Knowing the properties and behaviour of asphaltenes would help to model their refining process. The scope of this work was to synthesize model compounds, which represent asphaltenes, and to measure physical properties for those compounds. The modern understanding of asphaltene molecular structure was used as a basis for synthesis. Methods to measure physical properties were searched and applied. Seven model compounds were synthesized successfully. Melting point, enthalpy of fusion, heat capacity, solubilities, vapour pressure and enthalpy of vaporization were measured. The results will be used for modelling hydrocracking reactions for asphaltenes. |
Paljon asfalteeneja sisältävien raakaöljyjen jalostaminen laadukkaiksi polttoaineiksi on hyvin haastavaa. Asfalteeneja täytyy hajottaa esim. vetykrakkauksella ja niiden sisältämät rikki ja metallit poistaa. Johtuen asfalteenien merkityksen kasvamisesta öljyteollisuudessa, on niiden tutkimus lisääntynyt. |
