You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng):The target of this thesis was to optimize the cooking process at Storaenso Enocell pulp mill.
It also aimed to develop tools for daily production supervision to ease the detection of capacity decreases.

The theory section of this thesis explains the basics of the sulfate cellulose and batch cooking proc-esses focusing especially on the principles of the SuperBatch cooking.
The experimental section discusses optimization of cooking process at a pulp mill by utilizing the monitoring systems which were also modified and optimized.
Optimization focuses on the capacity of certain cookers and sequences that were recognized as a bottle neck.
Wedge report, Wedge model, Optivision report and history data were used to determine deviations in sequences.

The results of the optimization are analyzed in the last chapter.
After several improvements relating, for example, to filling of wood chips, cleaning of screens and pumping of black liquor the capacity of the cookers was improved approximately 10 percent.
Monitoring tools created for this thesis can be brought into use in daily work for more efficient detection of the bottle necks.
Abstract (fin):Työn tavoitteena oli optimoida Storaenson Enocellin sellutehtaan keittämön prosesseja.
Toinen tavoite oli kehittää työkaluja joilla esimiehet voivat helposti havaita prosessin suorituskyvyn laskun.
Työn teoriaosa käsittelee sulfaattiselluloosan valmistusta ja erityisesti SuperBatch keittämön periaatteita.

Kokeellinen osa käsittelee keittoprosessin optimointia prosessin tarkkailutyökaluja käyttäen.
Näitä tarkkailutyökaluja kehitettiin työn kuluessa.
Optimointi keskittyi keittimien sekvenssiajoissa havaittuihin muutoksiin jotka ajautuivat tuotannon pullonkaulaksi.

Pullonkaulojen havainnointiin käytettiin Wedge mallia, Wedge raporttia, Optivision raporttia ja historiallista dataa.Optimoinnin tuloksia on analysoitu viimeisessä luvussa.
Lukuisten parannuksien jälkeen, esimerkiksi haketäytössä, sihtien puhtaanapidossa ja mustalipeän pumppauksessa keitinten kapasiteetti nousi noin 10 prosenttia.
Työta varten luotuja prosessintarkkailuvälineitä voidaan käyttää päivittäisessä työskentelyssä pullonkaulojen havaitsemiseksi myös jatkossa.
